The Hatfields say: "When the Building Inspector came by he said, you picked one of the best builders in the area "

      The Hatfield Project Description:

We did not get the usual phone call or email inquiry prior to meeting the

Hatfields. We actually received a call from the McCoys across the street, and

as we were leaving, the Hatfields said they would like to have a new deck

built too. As history would have it, the Hatfields were more affluent (and

smarter) than the McCoys, as proof the Hatfields chose a Driscoll Solution for

their new deck, but unfortunatley the McCoys, who never got back to us,

hired the area's most unreliable Joe Schmo Contracting, who promised he

could do it cheaper. The line in the street has been drawn, so to speak...

      Driscoll Solution Story:

The Hatfields wanted us to replace those ugly builder steps to nowhere.

After a few design ideas, keeping in mind the location of the windows, we

came up with a custom deck design with nice bay corners and large set of

stairs centered on the sliding door. Sounds like a plan Driscoll, let's get to

work. Has anyone seen those Schmos...?

Hatfields: Have a plan, ready to go...

McCoys: Are still arguing over what's included in the Schmo's cheaper price

Hatfields: The Driscoll Boys are doing-the-do McCoys: Schmo? No show...

Hatfields: Old steps are off, footing holes dug, prepin' for the ledger. Workin' it!

McCoys: Schmo? No!

Hatfields: The Driscoll's work from dawn 'til dusk.

McCoys: Say it isn't Schmo

Hatfields: Note how we frame-up the beam and end-joist for a bay corner...

McCoys: Schmo? Blow!

Hatfields: ...so all our lines are straight McCoys: Schmo? Don't know?

Hatfields: Driscoll installs all the right hardware and blocking for a nice border pattern. Hatfields:There is no structural support below the bump-out, so we install a beam to support the weight load

Hatfields: clean cut bay and cantilever

McCoys: Schmo is down at the bay, and just can't-leave-her..

Hatfields: Note the hurricane clips and framing angle brackets between the deck joists and the o/s rim joist. Driscoll does it right!

Hatfields: The Driscoll Boys are on the job every day.

McCoys: Snow? No Schmo...

Hatfields: Picture perfect cut for the post

McCoys: Schmo? Ain't worth savin' the dough!

Hatfields: This deck is really starting to shape up

McCoys: Schmo? Ho, Ho, Ho....!

Hatfields: Nice block-down stringer attachment onto a new concrete slab

Hatfields: railing posts are set

McCoys: Schmo is out decking the halls, somewhere...?

Hatfields: Checker(board) stringers

McCoys: Just plain bored

Hatfields: Installing the fascia trimboard

McCoys: Haven't seen Schmo's face in days

Hatfields: That little side entrance is lookin' good

McCoys: Schmo was seen doing "other" work on the side...

Hatfields: Finishin' up those railings n' risers

McCoy: Wow, did we ever hire a Schmo...!

Hatfields: Good to go...

McCoy: Found out the hard way what "getting it cheaper" means

Hatfields: Done to plan, beautifully, on time, as scheduled

McCoys: Bye Joe...

Moral of this story:

Although tongue-in-cheek, this story was more than 1/2 true.

Both homeowners got their building permits to start on the same day and as we were giving the Hatfield's new deck a final powerwashing, the Schmo was out looking for day-laborers to dig his footings.

Call us to experience the Driscoll-Difference, or call some Schmo if your looking for a s-l-o-w cheap job...
